What are the current concerns about dissolvable tobacco products?
Due to the fact that these types of products are relatively new, there is not data specific to dissolvable smokeless tobacco products. However, there is data on other smokeless tobacco which shows that use can lead to increased risk of cardiovascular disease, oral cancer, gum disease, and nicotine addiction. In addition, smokeless tobacco users are at an increased risk for oral cancers due to exposure to tobacco juices in the mouth.
What can I use for quitting now?
There are a number of FDA-approved smoking cessation aids that are safe and effective, including nicotine gum, nicotine skin patches, nicotine lozenges, nicotine oral inhaled products, and nicotine nasal spray that are available for smokers to use to reduce their dependence on nicotine.
